Mr. Thomas J. Spruell, 78, of Jacksonville, Florida, and long-time resident of Springfield, MA, entered into eternal rest when the Lord called him peacefully home on Thursday, January 31, 2013.
Thomas was born in Valdosta, Georgia, on September 30, 1934, to Joseph P. and Willie (McIntyre) Spruell. He met his wife Monica in 1962. They were united in marriage in Springfield, Massachusetts on March 2, 1963.
In 1975, Thomas and Monica established “The Family Kitchen” which became well known for its Caribbean and Home-Style cuisine. He was a member of Sumner Lodge #5, Springfield, MA and Suez Temple #114. Thomas also enjoyed family, playing pool and spending time talking to hundreds of Springfield residents who frequented "The Family Kitchen"-the cornerstone of their community.
Thomas is predeceased by his beloved wife Monica, parents Joseph P and Willie B. and his brother Joseph. He leaves to cherish his memories: daughters Delma (David) Lloyd of Jacksonville, FL, Claudia Henderson of Dominica, Allison Mitchell of Rahway, NJ, Marcella of Springfield, MA, his son Mark of Springfield, MA and a host of relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2013, 11:00-11:30 A.M. followed by services, 11:30-1:00. at Henderson Funeral Home, Springfield, MA. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Please sign on-line condolences @www.hendersonsfh.com.
